Grethe Meyer was a Danish architect and designer. She had her own design studio from 1960 where she designed product for the home, including cutlery. Grethe inspired many female architects and designers, pushing open the door to gender equality in the design industry. Most productive in the late 1940s-70s, she focused not only on her pieces but on the consumers, noting that she wanted to produce high quality items that people could afford.
AVG (Average) is the balance between design and function. The name closely reflects our philosophy; to source everyday, useful products from around the world that serve a meaningful purpose in our customers lives, while adding to the overall beauty of their daily life.
Founded by designer Chris Hanz with Morgan Maisano in 2016, today in addition to the online store you can find the Average showroom on West Queen West in Toronto.
The collection is hand-picked by the founders and includes unique handmade pieces and mass produced items and can range in form between apparel to furniture, but maintains a common thread of timeless items designed with honesty, thought and integrity.
