Duo Seat — Blue/Green Linen
Valerie Objects by Muller van Severen

This piece is part of the AAVVGG Archive and not currently part of the collection.

Although Muller Van Severen presented their first furniture in 2011, it wasn’t until 2012 that they designed furniture to sit on. “That year we were appointed to do a solo exhibition at Interieur Kortrijk called Future Primitives." Fien explains. “It was a pretty big show. We had sixty square meters to fill but realized we had no objects to sit on. Thus we decided to make some."

Not only did the show lead to Muller Van Severen’s definite breakthrough into the design world, it pushed them to come up with seats that would later become icons. “We thought of creating seats that consist of a leather cloth spanning between two horizontal bars of the steel frame of the furniture”, Hannes explains. “The seat might be big, it’s also very transparent. Just like with our other furniture, the background still plays a role in the image. We don’t cover the room up”.

Unlike a massive sofa that sheaths a part of the interior, the duo seat ensures lightness and visual clarity. The seating is made from a linen fabric seating that comes in 2 color combinations (red/pink and blue/green). And although it may look uncomfortable to some, the duo seat actually sits quite nicely. “Don’t be afraid: it’s comfortable”, Fien smiles. “We’re more occupied with functionality than most people would think”.
