The J83, designed by Jørgen Bækmark, is intended as a natural footstool for the J80 / J81 chairs and especially the J82 lounge chair series, making the sitting experience more comfortable and relaxing.
It can also be used as additional seating when required, in the bedroom or bathroom or as a casual desk stool that can tuck away easily.
The turned solid wood legs and braided seat exudes natural quality and the material choices are as relevant today as when the stool was created in the 1950s.
Jørgen Bækmark (b. 1919) became head of FDB Møblers Design office in 1958 and is the only living designer of FDB Furniture from this era. Jørgen Bækmark was educated from The School of Arts and Crafts and the Art Academy's Furniture School, but was originally a cabinetmaker. The link between design and craftsmanship is evident throughout his work. In his time at FDB he was known for being deeply concerned with every last detail in the production of the pieces.

"Furniture ought to make room for people" That has been the philosophy of FDB Møbler since 1942 when was founded with architect Børge Mogensen heading up the studio.
Many new designers have since entered the fold, but the foundational principles remain the same: To create beautiful, functional and exceptionally crafted furniture that make room for everyday living and that can withstand everyday wear and tear to age gracefully with those who use them.
FDB Møbler is internationally known as a frontrunner of Danish design. It’s a story of classic pieces to be passed down from generation to generation. The values that FDB Møbler was founded upon continue to shape every piece of oak and beech. They are woven into the seats and are upheld in each design.
