A minimal and timeless wooden stool designed by Tosaryu. Sustainably handmade from locally-harvested, solid Japanese hinoki cypress the two wide legs with central bridge. The seat plate is moulder processed to suppresses slippage and improve surface draining.
The tradition of the bath stool dates back centuries in Japan where bathers using the onsen method would use the stool to sit and lather before washing off.
The hinoki (Japanese Cypress) wood is naturally resistant to decay, which makes it a natural choice for a shower or bath area and gives off a warm, signature scent making the stool a welcome addition to bathrooms or elsewhere in the home, such as the entrance or dressing area.

Established in 1960, Tosaryu is located amidst the mountain ranges of Kochi, Japan. The woodworkers of Tosaryu have personalized the skills of handmaking, or “monotsukuri”, by utilizing the features of the Japanese Hinoki they use to enhance the quality and function of their products. The wood is dried for 3-6 months before use, maintaining the fragrant, oil-rich, and sturdy composition of Hinoki that allows them to create a variety of products from bath mats to incense. Using sustainable methods of production and in their careful use of local resources, Tosaryu’s mission remains loyal to the forests and lakes around them as they master their art of woodwork.
