The iconic J46 dining chair was designed in 1956 by Poul Volther. At the time it was a ground breaking departure from the design of chairs at the time and its instantly recognizable v-shaped back quickly found a place in thousands of Danish homes. Its not all looks, however, its also a comfortable chair for all body types while being incredibly space efficient. Since its release in 1956 over a million have been sold around the world.
Poul M. Volther became the design head of FDB Møbler following Børge Morgenen and followed Børge Mogensen's thoughts and ambitions to furnish homes across Denmark with functional and practical furniture of the highest craftsmanship and architectural quality. With an education as both a cabinetmaker and a furniture designer, Poul M. Volther was highly qualified to carry both design and craftsmanship further.

"Furniture ought to make room for people" That has been the philosophy of FDB Møbler since 1942 when was founded with architect Børge Mogensen heading up the studio.
Many new designers have since entered the fold, but the foundational principles remain the same: To create beautiful, functional and exceptionally crafted furniture that make room for everyday living and that can withstand everyday wear and tear to age gracefully with those who use them.
FDB Møbler is internationally known as a frontrunner of Danish design. It’s a story of classic pieces to be passed down from generation to generation. The values that FDB Møbler was founded upon continue to shape every piece of oak and beech. They are woven into the seats and are upheld in each design.
